SCOTT BRADFORD – LEXICON AVENUE (SHINDIG UK)

SCOTT BRADFORD – LEXICON AVENUE (SHINDIG UK)

www.forensicrecords.co.uk

www.shindiguk.com
www.myspace.com/scottbradfordlexiconavenue

EXPLORING the deeper, darker reaches of the house music spectrum, Lexicon Avenue's Scott Bradford has forged a rock-solid reputation as a DJ who never fails to deliver.
From London to Lisbon, Toronto to Tokyo, and South America to Singapore, the affable spinner is regarded as one of the most consistent performers around.

Promoter and resident DJ at Shindig, one of the UK's most revered and longest-running nights, his vision and determination ensure the biggest and best names grace the decks on a weekly basis.
Now residing at Newcastle's impressive Digital, the weekly event’s success was instrumental in the venue securing the accolade of being named one of the 15 best clubs in the world by DJ Magazine in February 2007 - with the publication hailing it as "The Fabric of the North".
Widely regarded as both an institution and an inspiration, Shindig remains committed to serving up cutting edge sounds while also providing a platform for the most promising emerging talent.
After beginning his DJing career with slots at parties across the North East of England in 1989, Scott teamed up with friend and fellow turntable talent, Scooby, to launch the night at Club Afrika in 1992.
Its success snowballed and the pair decided to relocate to the city’s Riverside venue (later renamed Foundation). Continuing to go from strength to strength as word spread both home and abroad, it scooped Muzik magazine’s hotly-contested award for Best Underground Club Night in 2001.

By this time, Scott had already begun furthering his standing on the global dance music scene as one-third of the prolific Lexicon Avenue, teaming up with production partners Chris Scott and Mark Armstrong.
A formidable force in the development of UK house music since the late 90s, they launched their own label, Forensic, which soon gained immense international respect.
Expertly crafted to create maximum impact on the dancefloor, Lexicon Avenue’s tracks are fixtures in the sets of A-List DJs such as John Digweed, Deep Dish, Satoshi Tomiie, Danny Howells and Sander Kleinenberg.
They’ve been released on some of house music’s most influential imprints - including Yoshitoshi, Saw Recordings, Renaissance, Junior Boy’s Own and Hooj - as well as being licenced to leading compilations such as the Global Underground and Balance series.
Their success means Scott is in demand across the globe, regularly rocking world famous clubs like Pacha in Ibiza, Zouk in Singapore, Trilogy in Dubai, and Womb in Japan. Closer to home, Renaissance and Turnmills welcome him on to the decks on a frequent basis.
Such is Lexicon Avenue’s popularity, the trio were chosen to go head-to-head with Dave Seaman to mix the third installment of the Therapy Sessions compilation series. Released in October 2006 on Seaman’s own Audio Therapy label, they blended techier, electro-influenced cuts from Ame, Plastikman and Nick K, attracting a host of rave reviews.
Their fans had been eagerly waiting a follow up to their debut CD which hit the shelves in 2002 as part of NRK’s critically-acclaimed nite:life series.
In 2003, Scott seized the opportunity to put his club night centre stage with the Adventures of Shindig CD, before returning in 2004 with Forensic Science Exhibit A - featuring the finest selections from his own imprint’s back catalogue alongside a handful of previously unreleased exclusives. His production work is not just restricted to Lexicon Avenue though and along with production partner Chris Scott he has cast his spell using an almost dizzying array of monikers including Little Green Men, New Phunk Theory, Third Movement, Fishead (with Satoshi Tomiie), and Bush People (with Mark Armstrong and Mara‘s Barry Gilbey). Scott also has a brand new production project with fellow Shindig resident, Mark Lowry.
Scott's and his production partners remix credits read like a Who’s Who of the biggest names in house music with Danny Tenaglia, John Creamer and Stephane K, Dirty Vegas and Science Department all being given their trademark dancefloor-friendly treatment.
Depeche Mode, Chab, Habersham, and Seal can also be added to the impressive list which continues to grow at a rapid rate.
Capitalizing on this popularity, Scott and Mark Armstrong record their own monthly radio shows which are regularly broadcast on stations worldwide including Argentina, Spain, Italy, Portugal, Greece and Lithuania.
Scott also regularly contributes guest mixes for John Digweed’s Kiss FM show, and in October 2006 he featured alongside Pete Tong on Radio One’s Essential Mix which was broadcast live from Shindig.
A regular on the station over the years, he’s been championed numerous times by Pete Tong, Danny Rampling and Seb Fontaine.

And so there we have it. Over the last decade-and-a-half, through Shindig, Forensic Records, Lexicon Avenue and numerous other production guises, Scott Bradford has carved out an enviable position as a DJ you can trust - a DJ who speaks the language of the dancefloor.

*Mix will be up soon, please check back later.

DJ Thuy Vu

DJ THUY VU
DJ ThuyVu embarked on her music journey with classical piano at the age of 9. From the age of 10, ThuyVu has composed her own pieces and continues to do so today. By 16, she regarded the restrictions of reading sheet music as limiting and started to play by ear. Since then, she can play almost anything by ear including underground dance tracks as well as more popular hits.
By the year 2001, influenced by electronica, she set out to DJ. She began to play at local clubs and kitschy bars in Southern California. Then came other parts of nightlife essentials ranging from benefit parties, art galleries slash nightclubs, local radio shows, skateboarding competitions, warehouse and house parties, film festivals, out-of-town gigs, and a summer tour in Arizona. Always keen to never limit herself, DJ ThuyVu does not confine herself to one style and is known to play progressive house, tech-house, tribal house, breakbeats, downtempo, trip hop, idm, minimal, and everything in between. Her style can be described as raw, edgy, atmospheric, catchy and often coated with thick basslines, clean percussion, and vibrant pads and synths. She has started to DJ with elements such as performing with live vocals and playing her midi-controller as additional enhancement.

DJ ThuyVu's musical quest is expanding as she is learning how to make better music. As of the moment, she has only written music on the piano, but is currently working on her production skills in the studio. Keeping the underground scene alive and pushing the music that accompanies it - these are top on DJ ThuyVu's musical priorities, right up there with making people dance, rocking the crowd, and simply moving and stirring their hearts and souls.

A great blog by Skylab 2000

I like Dj’s. I sometimes Dj. In fact I even have some friends who are Dj’s. :)
But skylab2000 is a LIVE PERFORMANCE.

A lot of people ask about the difference between a DJ and a live performance.

Imagine a giant painting. A DJ basically creates that painting as a collage – two pictures, painted by other artists, blended into one new one.

We all love a great DJ, but a live performance takes that MUCH further, creating an entirely new painting LIVE on stage!

When I play live as skylab2000, I have all the basic parts of the music broken down and available to use or not use, based on how I feel that exact second. Do I want some more bass in that track? More kick drums? How about these vocals? A great crowd wants it harder? A live skylab2000 show involves multiple synthesizers, samplers, and effects units, and well over a dozen sources of sound at any given moment, giving me the ultimate flexibility.

That’s a lot of choices compared to DJing where we often have just have two – the left turntable, or the right turntable.

Juggling so many elements is quite an art form. That element of danger means that every single time I play a track that version is brand new, and never will be the same again. Each show is tailored to the crowd at that exact second. When you see skylab2000, you can ONLY hear that track, that way, that very moment.

I travel with a lot of gear, and month after month there are new challenges, but for over a decade now, I’ve been taking a bunch gear out on the road and doing it LIVE as skylab2000.

Keep music alive. Support LIVE electronic music!

Taylor

mix at bottom of this page
As one of the originators of the progressive house and trance sound on the West coast, Taylor has become one of America's premier DJ's and producer's. This year marks the twelfth year of a successful DJ career. Taylor has touched down on many critical dance floors around the globe: Asia, Australia, Turkey, Hong Kong, Peru, Korea, and New Zealand to name a few. In 1999 Taylor joined The Crystal Method on their groundbreaking and very successful ÒVegasÓ tour hitting a different city each night, playing 6 nights a week to sold out venues for two months. This tour was the first of three with The Crystal Method.

The summer of 2001 Taylor released his critically acclaimed mixed compilation "Synesthesia" for Ultra Records. One of the first double CD's released by an American DJ. Taylor has also earned the distinction of being one of the first US DJ's to represent the Ministry of Sound, the largest dance music company in the world, with the release of "Trance Nation America". This double CD, released on Ultra Records, with one mix by Taylor and the other from Jimmy Van M.
In late 1998, his long awaited and much anticipated United DJ's of America Vol. 10 CD, Resonance, was released. Musik Magazine calls it "Sweet dreamy Trance and hard funkin' breakbeats, all deftly mixed by Taylor...". In March of 2001 Mixer Magazine chose Taylor's Resonance mix to be to re-released in a new series entitled "Rewind".

On the vinyl front, Taylor is most remembered (with some help from B.T.) for "Anomaly, Calling your Name". This song qualifies as no less than a progressive classic being one of the most remixed and re-released electronic dance music records ever. The song eventually made its way into the movie ÒAmerican PieÓ. Taylor has a multiple release history of collaboration with many great talents and labels including: MusicNow, Fluid, Hook, Platipus, Distinctive and it all began with Planet 4 records where Taylor and Guy Oldhams did their first track together under the moniker of G.T.R.

Currently Taylor continues his DJ travels and has just finished a much anticipated new track with Paul Brogden (P.O.B.).
